Zoomdweebies enter Trivia Hall of Fame

For twenty years, the Neo-Maxi Zoomdweebies have been about having a good time and playing a good game during trivia, and at the 2017 award ceremonies we were honored for doing just that. We have always embraced the accomplishments we’ve been able to obtain. Best Challenge awards, Best Meme awards, and a bit of Voodoo Doll straw attached to our banner have been all that we’ve needed to know we’re doing something right. And now it is with great joy and thanks that we take a place amongst the likes of legendary teams as GDI, Animal House, Sigma Phi Nothing, Learned Pigs and Fireproof Women, Digital Dungeon Dwellers, and more. No small feat for sure, and an honor besides.

The Zoomdweebies don’t sweat the trivia. We nestle in and get comfortable, eschewing the tables and structure seen on other teams. We leverage technology as a means to easily collaborate across the room and across the world in our annual search for knowledge. Most importantly, we’ve just had the best damn people play with us over the years, from our heady, fun-loving, wild begining in high school all the way up to our current, more chill brand of team. One could say that over the years we’ve run the full gamut of all of John Bender’s moods.

Many, many thanks go out to all the dedicated people who have made this team what it is, and whose stories we still tell to new members to this day. Natalie and Chandra Linnell, our founding sisters. Matt Kilanowski, who signs us up and manages to get things organized since taking the reigns from the Linnell sisters. Sam Rassier, who (as the story goes) named us, was our movie guru, and also managed to play from Bagdhad one year. Angie Zylla and Aja Weller, charter members who are still dedicated to this day. Jocelyn Anderson, who flies home every year to play. Jen Kilanowski, who kept our questions and scoring notebook for so many years. Our dedicated, faceless members online members who contribute year after year: Ed and the gang, Tom, Todd, and Anne and her cadre of Norwegian librarians. Ben and Robyn Kilanowski, who took a chance on hosting us once and have been a vital part of the heart and soul of this team ever since. David Waldorf, may his pudding incident live in infamy. Michael and Sarah Sprengeler, part of the backbone of the team for so many years. Molly and TJ, who found the Voodoo Doll for us to steal. There are many, many more members and alumni, too many to name… All of them with their own stories to be told, all of them as much a part of this honor as the members who still play on the team to this day.

Thanks to everyone who has ever hosted us over the years. It’s a huge sacrifice to give your home over to trivia for a weekend, and there have been many to step up to the plate: The Linnells, Aja Weller, Kim and Josh Eastin, Michelle Barbour, Josh Swantz, Katie Sommerville, Matt Kilanowski, Jen Kilanowski, Ruth and David Sprengeler, Noel Collis, Michael and Theresa Kilanowski, Ben and Robyn Kilanowski, and Andy and Chelsea Kilanowski. Without the generosity of all these people, the team would have been homeless.

As is any other team, the Neo-Maxi Zoomdweebies are a sum of our parts. We’ve just been blessed over the years to have some amazing parts to assemble the team. And so, to add to our numerous top ten finishes, our Challenge and Meme awards, and our many tales of trivia since 1998, we thank the good people of KVSC for inducting us into the Trivia Hall of Fame.

Dear Ms. McMullen,

We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole weekend in February for whatever knowledge we could and could not find, but we think you’re crazy to make us stand on stage at the award ceremony telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us… In the simplest terms and the most convenient definitions. But what we found out over the course of two decades is that each one of us is a brain… …and an athlete… …and a basket case… …a princess… …and a criminal.

Does that answer your question?

Sincerely yours,

the Neo-Maxi Zoomdweebies

2014 NMZ Logo Revealed!

His middle name is Ralph, as in puke, he was born on the 12th of March, he’s 5′ 9 and a half tall, he weighs in at 130 pounds, and his Social Security number is 049-38-0913. That’s right, we’re talking about the Breakfast Club’s resident jock, Andrew Clark, and he’s a fitting image to represent the team during KVSC’s sports-themed Trivia Marathon this year.

“We’re all pretty bizarre. Some of us are just better at hiding it, that’s all.”

Zoomdweebies return to Top 10!

With a final score of 15,065, the Neo-Maxi Zoomdweebies finished the 2013 Trivia Marathon in 9th place out of 62 teams. Or maybe it was 61 teams… Apparently “Mmmmm Bacon” was a remnant from some trivia team merger.

Anywho, it was a year of not so many ups and downs. It seemed like the whole field of teams had their good and bad hours at the same time, so our usual 10-place swing was reduced to a 3-place speed bump. And while we missed many of the usual suspects, some due to life or work and some due to the inclement weather, we had enough new recruits this year to keep our numbers at HQ on par with previous years.

All-in-all, it was a good time.

All prices reduced in our store!

Does anybody actually shop there? Well, no… I don’t think anybody has in years. I’m kind of surprised that it still exists. I mean, doesn’t CafePress purge the inactive accounts every once in a while?

Anyway, there’s no point in even pretending that we can make any money off of the store anyway. All items are now at the base price, meaning that the only ones who make money on the merchandise are the folks at CafePress. That shouldn’t stop you from wanting one of the fine NMZ collectables or wearables, though!

Space… The final frontier. These are the voyages of the USS Zoomdweebie, heading on our 16th mission to find information, rack up points, and boldly deprive ourselves of sleep in another 50 hours of trivia madness. Beaming on to your screen is our 2013 logo in its full, astronomical glory.

15 and Done!

And in our 15th year we come out in… 15th place! A total score of 13,985 hard-earned points from our lean, mean Trivia team was not what we had hoped for, but it was a satisfying enough result after fighting our way up from 28th. If ever we begin the contest in 10th, everyone else watch out!

Many thanks go out to our gracious hosts Kim and Josh, and to all who played from St. Cloud and afar. This was truly a team effort this year! Thank you!

2012 Train a Rollin’

It’s almost a month to Trivia, and we’ve got things moving right along at NMZ HQ. We have a shiny, new house to play in, a shiny, new webhost, and a shiny, new forum. So, if you were registered on the old forum, well, you’re not anymore. Keep an eye out, we have more new stuff for our 15th Trivia Weekend coming soon!
